The library curates a constantly refreshed collection of nearly 14,000 materials, providing a diverse range of resources. Additionally, we proudly offer numerous external resources to the Portland library, along with a variety of other services.

Our Collection

Our extensive Maine section is of interest to locals and visitors. We have a wide selection of Maine place histories and family genealogical books.

Audio books,  large print books, games, puzzles, music, and language tapes are also available to patrons. The movie collection is extensive at over 2000 titles and includes new releases of popular films and documentaries.​

Portland Public Library PALS Program

We are proud to be part of the Portland Public Library PALS program -  we can give out PPL cards at the library. Come to the Library to get a card. ​

Digital Maine Library

Doing research? Looking for a book similar to one you've read in the past? Working on your genealogy? Access a wide variety of databases made available by the Maine State Library.

Computer & Internet

Open wireless network (no password required) is operational 24/7. Two public use stations are available on a first come, first come first basis.  Filtered access to Internet in compliance with CIPA.  15 minute use limit when others are waiting. Wireless printing now available at the library!

  • Books, Audio Books, Music 2 weeks

    Movies 1 week

    Periodicals no set limit

  • The Library voted to do away with fines. If you lose or damage a book, we will ask you to pay to replace it. The cardholder is responsible for loss or damage to materials borrowed on that card.

  • All materials may be returned in the drop slot after hours.

    Renewals may be done in person, by phone, or email, unless a reserve is in place for another patron.

  • Books not found in the collection may be requested through the Inter Library Loan system. Patrons may complete a request form and leave with staff.

    There is suggested donation to offset postage costs.

Ancestry.Com

Ancestry.com is now available through the Maine State Library Marvel online resources.  You have to access it from the Library.

In addition to its extensive collection, the library extends its services to the community by offering convenient audio and visual rentals, copying and faxing services, ensuring accessibility to essential document-related needs.

 Audio Visual Equipment

The Library has equipment available for use by individuals and groups. Requests for equipment must be made at least 3 days in advance.  Lost or damaged equipment becomes the responsibility of the borrower. ​

Copier/Printers/FAX

Patrons are responsible for the cost of all pages printed or faxed.  

  • Black and white copies $ .20/page

    Color copies $ .30/page

  • FAX in/out: $ 1.00/page

    Outside North America: $ 3.00/page

  • A shredder is available for use.

Library Policies

The Library is committed to safeguarding all borrowers’ records to the extent the law allows. In keeping with Maine State Revised Statutes, which provide that all such records will be kept confidential, the Trustees interpret this to include juvenile records.
